Tiny House Community Build
Fall and Winter 2020
Twelve 8' x 12' wooden structures, called "wooden tents" have been constructed between October and December to provide short term winter shelter. These structures were being built to create a housing resource, and worked in collaboration with the City of Port Townsend, Jefferson County, and the Port so that this housing resource might be best utilized this winter. The EBC graciously offered land adjacent to the church as a construction and storage site for these buildings until such an appropriate site was found. Landing at the Community United Methodist Church, the 12 units will be settled and accompanied by a bathroom and shower unit as well as a community area for added storage and light cooking.
Plans for these structures were provided by the Low Income Housing Institute (lihi.org) and provide insulation, an electric outlet, a light, a heater, and a bed. Other cities that have such temporary, supportive villages have found that they are designed to be quickly erected and are relatively easy to relocate to another site.
